Khoury College in Arlington

Elizabeth “Beth” Hawthorne, cybersecurity graduate program  director and a nationally recognized leader in CyberAI curricular convergence, brings students into active research on how to redesign higher education programs for an AI-enabled cybersecurity workforce — work that has shaped the Stoneman Report framework and contributed to the 2025 ACM SIGCITE position paper defining the field’s curricular future.

Huihui Wang, a former NSF Program Director in both the Directorate for STEM Education and the Directorate for Technology Innovation and Partnerships, leads research on computing education in the third wave of artificial intelligence, with particular focus on building pathways into computing for learners from non-traditional backgrounds — directly relevant to the military-affiliated and career-changing students who define the Arlington campus population.

Youna Jung is an AI and cybersecurity researcher with more than 50 peer-reviewed publications spanning IoT security, access control, privacy, and mobile health informatics. Her work on property-based access control, multi-agent system security, and AI-driven disaster management positions her at the intersection of intelligent systems and operational security — treating security as a dynamic, context-sensitive challenge rather than a static enforcement problem.

Katherine Socha brings a distinguished record as both a research mathematician and nationally recognized educator to the Arlington campus. A recipient of the Mathematical Association of America’s Henry L. Alder Award for distinguished teaching and the Ford Award for expository excellence, her research focuses on mathematical modeling of surface water waves. She teaches algorithms, machine learning, and data science in Khoury’s Align and MSCS programs, with expertise spanning differential equations, optimization, probabilistic reasoning, and computational thinking.
